Common Terminology

  • Alchemy: a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.

  • Somatic: relating to the body

  • Integration: when separate people or things are brought together

  • Somatic Integration: the process of healing trauma through transformational, body-based modalities

  • Embodiment: a tangible or visible form of an idea, quality, or feeling…the representation or expression of something in a tangible or visible form.

  • Embodiment Practices: attend to the senses and incorporate your physical being into the healing process.

  • Trauma: the lasting emotional response that often results from living through a distressing event

  • Stress: a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances…subject to pressure or tension.

  • *Pendulation involves moving back and forth between sensations of safety and sensations of discomfort.

  • *Titration involves breaking down overwhelming experiences into smaller, more manageable parts.

  • Clairsentience: the ability to perceive emotional or psychic energy that is imperceptible to the five standard senses...connecting with our intuition through our bodies is called clairsentience; 'clair' meaning clear, from clairvoyant meaning 'seeing clearly' and 'sentient' meaning 'capable of feeling' or 'conscious of,' i.e. conscious feeling and sensing...aka "clearly feeling" / the 6th sense


*The term Pendulation was coined by Dr. Peter Levine, describing a process of oscillating between two vortexes, a trauma vortex, and a healing vortex, to titrate the recall of stressful events.
